Gas Tank Sealer

I have a new steel, two piece gas tank for my latest project and was wanting your input on gas tank "sealers". I know there is a debate out there on whether or not to use a sealer in that some people claim they crack and chip and become more of a hazard than not sealing. What are your thoughts? If you do recommend sealing a gas tank prior to paint, what brand to you use/recommend?
