Hardtail Bike Build

I did a hard tail kit a year and a half a go and had a blast. I road my bike all over hell and back. Was so much fun I thought I would do it again. BUT after seeing the hard tail kit for the money I thought I will just build it myself.

I started with an old hard tail frame from a friend was going to re hardtail it. Cut it off. Then found all kinds of cracks and stuff in the front half of the frame, cut it off. Now just a nick. I started inspecting it and it was pretty much fubar. I couldn't throw it away, it had the magic numbers on it. Whatever. So with only a neck for a bike I decided to build a frame jig and do a complete frame. The neck went to the home of my Favorite machines and came back new needing number reinstalled. And that's where it all began. A few hundred more hours and a few more dollars and it should be there.

my old rigid has a steel seat withspings and with about 12psi in the rear tire you can ride all day. people ask all the time is that comfortable and my reply is better than a church benck and about the same as a park bench.

Diggin Rigids
by: Anonymous

Terrific look, and very inspiring. I'm posting to find out if I'm missing out from misinformation: I own an HD Softail because I like the look of rigids, but have some low back issues (& 6'5'', 225lbs). If that becomes uncomfortable, I'll just have to suffer what I have to to ride.

But most of the builds I've admired (incuding this one) have rigid frames. Plus there's cost. And a "simpler project" is more appealing/doable. So what are you rigid builders doing to smooth your distance rides beyond springer seats? And does that provide more comfort than I may expect?

Thanks in advance for your help,

Lon Smith
