VW Trike and Springer Fork Assembly

I am building a vw trike. I have an old school twisted paucho springer front end fork assembly. It came with the parts I purchased from someones project. I really want hydraulic wide forks. can I remake what I have and widen it and add a hydraulic shock on it?

So much money is already spent on it now. I am wanting to front load weight with a big heavy tire style and wide forks. The engine is a 1600cc super Beatle. I'm 60 years old and find no joy in popping wheelies.
