What business should I Start?

Hi my name is Scott but folks call me Skooter. I’m 25, I live in Michigan & I’ve been to school for everything! They say, "Oh this field is in high demand", but when you look for a job there are none! I took welding for 2 years 'I love it' but once again there’s no jobs without 10 years experience... so I’m thinking id like to start my own business! I’ve always thought it would be cool to build custom motorcycles but now in the last few years there's TV shows like OCC and now everyone has a bike shop! I guess what I’m asking is; is it hard to start a custom bike shop? And how much do custom bike builders make a year? Thanks for your time. Scott 'Skooter' Young. E-mail: superskooter@yahoo.com

Custom Bike Shop
by: Jeff

Scott,

I don't know how much custom bike builders make in a year, but from watching show like the Biker Build-Off series, I've realized most of them have something else going on from a business standpoint. They do more than just build the bikes...they produce and sell aftermarket parts on the side. That's usually the money maker for their businesses. I think if they just built bikes and sold them alone, they wouldn't survive.

Repair and Maintence first
by: Spider

If I were you I would stick to "Repair and Maintence" as your main means of making money and do the bike building in your spare time if you have any until you get established. You'll always have dudes needing their bikes repaired or maintence done on them but you won't always have them to shell out big bucks for a custom bike.
Just my 2 cents.
