VIN on a 1967 Harley

VIN on a 1967 Harley? There is no number on the frame. This is true of all the Harley's until sometime in the 70s(?). The number used for the VIN was the number on the left side of the engine case. My police special (67) was used by the LA County Sheriff and they stamped a series of numbers starting with DRF on the right side of the frame by the battery. This number is used for the VIN on the the registration instead of the number on the left side of the engine case.
