My Sportster Chopper Project:

I found this 1984 XLX 1000 Sportster on my way home from work. I stopped by and spoke to the owner. He wanted about 4 grand for the thing. I thought he must have been out of his mind. So I walked away from it. About every few weeks I would stop by and take a long look and sit on it. The owner would come out and ask if I was going to buy it and I would tell him I couldn't afford it. After 3 month past and he lowered the price to about $3700.00 I stopped by and once again. He asked me if I was going to buy it? I said I don't want to offend you or anything but I wouldn't give you more then $2700.00. Well needless to say he did get upset so once again I drove away. Well about 2 days later my phone rings and he takes my offer. So now I'm a proud owner of a Harley Davidson XLX 1000 Sportster. I'm gonna chop her up this winter.

Well. I have read your comments and you should be happy to know I haven't chopped her up yet. It is still sitting on my bike lift completely disassembled. Things happen in life and I haven't the money yet to start up my project. Every time I'm ready to start, something happens and it gets delayed. I have been thinking about restoring the Sportster instead. Thank you for your comments.

You must realize the model you has is the last of the generator-ironheads...mid '84 HD changed over to the alternator breed.Personal choice is free,I-ve kept my 84 close to stock as possible as money-wise it'll hold value.Chop it and you wont recover.Hardtail it and its value goes to shit.Been there-rode one-6months later your back hurts forever. What I see in that pic is the rare parts(originals)...i'll wait for them to show up on Ebay
